I walked on the evening of the summer solstice. Past red brick Victorian mansion blocks, into the park, through the sub-tropical garden and on to the river, where it smelt of the sea.
I stayed out as long as I could, until the last available light dipped and faded into the Thames. It was 10.30 pm.
